Andy Millner: Riverrun
June 13 – July 9, 2025
Hexton Gallery | Aspen, Colorado
I am pleased to present Riverrun, my debut solo exhibition with Hexton Gallery. The title—borrowed from the cyclical opening line of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake—utilizes the river as a structuring metaphor for how we live, think, and create.
This body of work explores the unseen motion, gaps in perception, and opportunities afforded by open space. Seeing the figure/ground relationship in reverse has been a part of most of the art I have made. I see the background as the more dynamic part, an entity of openness and possibility that surrounds and connects everything, with the figure as a static interruption.
For me, emptiness can be a great comfort—this space between the known and unknown provides the opportunity for things to come into being.
